Artist’s Talk

The artistry of Swedish church life is presented in the exhibit Sacred
Beauty: Treasures from Swedish Cathedrals and Churches. The exhibit features
historic and contemporary textiles and precious metals from Sweden , including
religious designs by silversmith Anna-Stina Åberg, one of Sweden ’s most
recognized silversmiths. A reception to open the exhibit will be held
from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2007 at the American Swedish Institute.
At 7 p.m. that evening, Swedish silversmith Anna-Stina Åberg, whose works
are featured in the exhibit, will give an illustrated-talk about her work.
The opening reception and lecture are included with museum admission.
Sacred Beauty will be on view June 1-Oct. 7, 2007. The American Swedish

Works by acclaimed Swedish silversmith Anna-Stina Åberg anchor the display
of contemporary religious design with chalices, communion sets, processional
crosses and other objects. During her talk on June 1, she will discuss
“simplicity of form” as a guiding principal of design, the process she
uses, and the symbolism that inspires her work. For more than 40 years,
Åberg has designed and crafted religious pieces, tableware and jewelry.
A series of companion exhibits will explore traditions of denominations
founded by Swedish immigrants in America : Augustana Lutheran Synod June
1-24; Mission Covenant, July 1-22; Evangelical Free Church, August 1 -
36; and Swedish Baptist (Minnesota Baptist Conference), Sept. 1-30, 2007.
